Kia is gearing up to launch its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in India by 2024. The EV9 is based on the Imagine concept that was showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. It will be the first model to use Kia’s new E-GMP platform, which is dedicated to electric vehicles. Here are some of the key features and specifications of the Kia EV9.
Design and Dimensions
The Kia EV9 will have a sleek and futuristic design, with a low-slung roofline, a large grille with LED lights, and a muscular stance. The EV9 will also have a spacious and luxurious cabin, with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and premium materials. The EV9 will measure around 4.8 meters in length, which is similar to the Kia Sorento.
Battery and Range
The Kia EV9 will offer two battery options: a 58kWh pack and a 77.4kWh pack. The smaller battery will provide a range of around 400km, while the larger battery will offer a range of around 500km. The EV9 will also support fast charging, which can replenish 80 percent of the battery in less than 20 minutes.
Performance and Features
The Kia EV9 will have a dual-motor setup, with one motor on each axle. The combined output of the motors will be around 300hp and 600Nm of torque. The EV9 will be able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in less than six seconds and have a top speed of around 200km/h. The EV9 will also come with various features, such as adaptive air suspension, regenerative braking, wireless charging, head-up display, and advanced driver assistance systems.
Price and Competition
The Kia EV9 is expected to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh in India, which will make it one of the most expensive electric SUVs in the market. The EV9 will compete with other premium electric SUVs, such as the Mercedes-Benz EQC, the Jaguar I-Pace, and the upcoming Audi e-tron and Tesla Model Y.
The Kia EV9 is part of Kia’s ambitious plan to launch seven new electric vehicles by 2027. The EV9 will be followed by the EV6, which is a smaller electric crossover that will rival the Hyundai Kona Electric and the MG ZS EV. Kia aims to sell around 1.6 lakh electric vehicles globally by 2026 and increase its market share in India’s electric vehicle segment.
